Host.net Buys Hostway Data Center

Florida colocation provider Host.net has acquired a 12,000 square foot data center in Ft. Lauderdale that was previously occupied by Hostway and Affinity Internet/ValueWeb, the company said today. The deal continues strong growth for Host.net, which acquired WV Fiber last year.

"The move into Ft. Lauderdale reflects Host.net’s strategy of expanding in its existing markets to better service our customers needs," said Jeffrey Davis, Host.net’s co-founder & CEO. The new owner plans to add more than 40Gbps of lit Internet and transport connectivity and upgrade the cooling and electrical capacity of the building.

"Customers and partners have been asking Host.net to consider opening a Ft. Lauderdale facility to provide additional geographic diversity and business solutions, which is in line with the company’s long-term strategic plan," said Chief Marketing Officer Lenny Chesal.

Host.net was founded in 1996 and is headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida. The Ft. Lauderdale facility was originally operated by Affinity Internet. After Affinity was acquired by Hostway in 2007, the companies attempted to migrate customers from the Ft. Lauderdale facility to a Hostway-owned data center in Tampa. The move went badly, leaving some customers offline for days.
