At last week's Data Center World conference, Kevin Brown, VP, Global Data Center Offer, Schneider Electric, presented a session titled, "The Pros and Cons of Modular Systems." He said the most desired characteristics of pre-fabricated modular systems are flexibility, cost effectiveness and predictability. "Modularity is valuable only to the extent that it helps achieve standardization and scalability," Brown said. While modularity has its benefits, the standardization can be restrictive and it may not work at all site locations. In this brief video, Brown offers thoughts on the benefits and drawbacks of pre-fabricated modular data center units.
