Here’s a roundup of some of some of this week’s headlines from the content delivery network (CDN) sector:
Limelight introduces Orchestrate framework. Limelight Networks (LLNW) introduced a new solution framework designed to address the specific digital media workflow needs of vertical markets. The technologies in Limelight Orchestrate are designed to help to manage the complex challenges in publishing digital content to large International audiences using many dfferent devices. Orchestrate, which was showcased at Streaming Media East 2012 in New York, combines video publishing and management, web content management, cloud storage, site acceleration, and CDN services. Limelight Stream Anywhere, a service in the CDN component of the Orchestrate Application Platform, automatically converts video content from recognized formats (like RTMP) into today's popular chunked formats like HDS and HLS upon request, leveraging Adobe's powerful Adobe Media Server 4.5. "The exponential growth of mobile technologies is posing a number of challenges to digital content publishing — challenges that directly impact an organization's ability to focus resources on core business functions," said David Hatfield, Senior Vice President, Limelight Networks. "Limelight is uniquely positioned to help publishers save untold hours and ensure true 'publish once, deliver anywhere' functionality." Limelight also announced that it has formed a strategic partnership with Concentric Cloud Solutions, who has added Limelight's integrated content delivery services and cloud-based applications to its product offering targeted at the enterprise marketplace.
Akamai to power 65th Cannes film festival. Akamai Technologies (AKAM) announced that the Akamai HD Network will provide online video coverage of the 65th Cannes International Film Festival to all mobile-connected attendees and also to official Cannes International Film Festival website visitors. "The Cannes Film Festival is one of the industry's most prestigious events and our relationship stretches back over many years and has seen Akamai delivering the Festival's Internet content from as early as 2000," said Stuart Cleary, EMEA Product Director of Digital Media at Akamai. "We are honored to once again be streaming trailers of films being screened at the event – as well as content from the proceedings and awards presentations – to fans and film enthusiasts, allowing them to experience the atmosphere and excitement of the globally recognized film festival alongside those actually attending the event. And, as the Festival has embraced the digital age and all the opportunities it presents, we're very proud to be an integral part in enabling that to happen."
Octoshape partners with Geniatech. Octoshape announced today a partnership with Shenzen based Geniatech Inc.
