It's been a busy week of announcements for some of the largest players in the data center and cloud computing realm here's a roundup of some of this week's news:
Digital Realty Partners with Data Foundry for Network Services - Data Foundry has been selected as a preferred network partner for Digital Realty Trust in Austin, the companies said this week. This strategic partnership allows Digital Realty (DLR) to provide its customers with carrier-neutral choices for their outsourced IT and telecommunications needs. The partnership begins in Austin, Texas and creates a model for expansion to other markets.Under the agreement, Digital Realty customers at its Metro Center campus in Austin now have access to Data Foundry’s global network capabilities and more than 17 telecommunications carriers, plus Data Foundry’s full suite of managed services, including cloud, storage, monitoring and managed security.
T5's LA Data Center Facility Receives LEED Silver - T5 Data Centers said this week that the company’s T5@LA facility has been granted LEED Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). This is the third T5 data center to be granted LEED certification. T5@LA was fully commissioned in August 2012 and is a tier III-plus MEP design (mechanical, engineering, plumbing) purpose-built data center located in El Segundo near Los Angeles International Airport.
CoreSite Supports AWS Direct Connect, Access to AWS GovCloud - CoreSite (COR) this week announced the support of AWS Direct Connect sub 1G connections and connections to AWS GovCloud (US) Services in its data center facilities. Currently AWS Direct Connect is deployed in CoreSite's LA1 facility at One Wilshire in Los Angeles and NY1 facility at 32 Avenue of the Americas in Manhattan. CoreSite will now support extended network connectivity for customers in Silicon Valley, Boston and Virginia. CoreSite's support of AWS Direct Connect's sub 1G connections enables customers to establish private network connections to AWS to reduce network costs, increase throughput, and deliver more consistent network performance than can be achieved over the public Internet.
Rackspace Brings Hybrid OpenStack Cloud to Hong Kong - Rackspace Hosting this week launched Hong Kong’s first hybrid cloud powered by OpenStack, the open source cloud computing platform. The new public cloud joins Rackspace’s existing portfolio of private cloud and dedicated solutions to complete the Open Cloud Company’s Hybrid Cloud offering to businesses throughout the Asia-Pacific region. “We are excited to launch the region’s first hybrid cloud powered by OpenStack,” said Ajit Melarkode, managing director of Rackspace Asia Pacific. “OpenStack already gives thousands of our customers access to the power of open standards and enables them to enjoy freedom from vendor lock-in as they open new gateways to faster innovation through cloud computing.”
CyrusOne Enables Travis County Texas IT Services - CyrusOne announced this week that Travis County Information Technology Services (ITS) is a new customer at its newest Austin, Texas, data center located at Met Center Business Park. Travis County ITS, which supports 43 county departments with 20 lines of business, selected CyrusOne and the Austin Met Center II site to house its production data center environment.
