Equinix has acquired the Kleyer 90 carrier hotel in Frankfurt, one of the busiest network nodes in Europe, the company said this week. The colocation and interconnection specialist acquired the building from a Berlin-based private investor.
The purchase allows Equinix to ensure expansion opportunities at Kleyer90, which houses the Equinix FR4 and FR5 data centers, and ties into 450 networks. With more than 7,100 physical cross-connects, "Campus Kleyer" is one of the most densely interconnected Equinix locations in the world.
Frankfurt is one of the world’s busiest data hubs, and home to a major stock exchange that is a focal point for low-latency trading, a key business vertical for Equinix. Last year Equinix acquired Ancotel GmbH, one of the major network operators within Kleyer90.
"The acquisition of Kleyer 90 is the natural next step following our successful integration of Ancotel last year and will give our customers greater confidence when planning ahead in this exceptionally busy network hub," said Eric Schwartz, president of Equinix EMEA. "We can now offer long-term continuity and room to grow, and we plan to invest in the building to enhance security and infrastructure management."
Equinix operates 95 data centers across 31 markets in North America, Europe, Asia and South America.
