Here’s a roundup of some of this week’s headlines from the network sector:
Infinera Introduces Instant Bandwidth. Infinera (INFN) announced the availability of Infinera Instant Bandwidth on the DTN-Xplatform. Instant Bandwidth allows network operators to rapidly deploy bandwidth in 100 Gigabits per second (100G) increments without the typical long wait times associated with provisioning equipment, as well as engineering and activating services. TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) is the first to announce the selection and deployment of the DTN-X platform with Instant Bandwidth for their nationwide 100G U.S. network. The solution packages hardware and software together, delivering 5 Terabits of OTN (Optical Network Network) switching per bay. “2012 has been the ‘year of 100G:’ interest in 100G is broad-based and deployments are outpacing our market projections,” said Dana Cooperson,VP Network Infrastructure at Ovum. “Operators need a way to keep pace with uncertain network traffic growth without under- or over-provisioning infrastructure capacity. Network operators want to deploy capacity at 100G incrementally while minimizing and balancing CapEx and OpEx.”
CoreSite Selects Sidera for Connectivity. CoreSite (COR) and Sidera Networks announced that Sidera is providing connectivity between CoreSite data centers located in critical communications markets including Chicago, Boston, New York, Washington and Reston, Virginia. Connecting through the Sidera network gives CoreSite customers immediate access to over 40 financial exchanges and the Sidera Xtreme Ultra-Low Latency Network. As a result of the expansion into additional CoreSite data centers, Sidera will extend peering on CoreSite’s Any2 exchange and provide access to CoreSite's Open Internet Exchange. “Sidera is proud to be a part of CoreSite’s ecosystems,” said Clint Heiden, President, Sidera Networks. “Connecting multiple CoreSite facilities to our network ensures that our mutual customers will have diverse and scalable access to strategic data center resources, from carrier interconnection to cloud services to space, power and storage.”
Tulane University Selects Level 3. Level 3 Communications (LVLT) announced it has signed an agreement with Tulane University to provide network services in support of the university's business continuity infrastructure. The university has signed a multi-year agreement with Level 3 for Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) and Ethernet Private Line (EPL) services to support its critical business continuity needs. "We are very pleased with our relationship with Level 3. Not only does the company provide great service, but more importantly, Level 3 serves and understands the higher education community, and is able to offer services in ways that make sense for us," said Charlie McMahon, Chief Technology Officer for Tulane University. "These network services safeguard Tulane against losing connectivity to communications that are critical to the university's core mission."
