Noteworthy announcements in the data center industry include: Infinera, CyrusOne, Level 3 and Edgecast.
Infinera selected by CyrusOne. Infinera (INFN) announced its partnership on CyrusOne's Texas Internet Exchange (IX), the first statewide IX in the United States. The IX network, powered by the Infinera DTN and based on 100 Gigabit per second (Gb/s) photonic integrated circuits (PICs), is expected to provide high-speed cloud-based services between CyrusOne’s major facilities and third-party carrier hotels in Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. Based on the Infinera DTN platform, the network is embedded with Bandwidth Virtualization, which allows optical capacity to be deployed as and when needed, without lengthy lead times or complex optical engineering. “The deployment of Infinera’s Digital Optical Network provides us with a robust platform for high-speed cloud-based services that will ensure service flexibility, minimize bandwidth costs, simplify network operations, and consolidate network architecture. In addition, the Infinera solution reduces latency for active-active disaster recovery requirements,” said Josh Snowhorn, vice president and general manager of interconnection at CyrusOne. “Infinera is one of the most respected optical telecommunications suppliers in the world. To provide this level of technology and support demonstrates our level of dedication to the CyrusOne Texas IX platform.”
Level 3 selected by VEVO. Level 3 Communications announced it is providing media delivery service to power a new 24/7 music video channel for VEVO, an all-premium music video and entertainment platform. The end-to-end media delivery service is served from the Level 3 CDN and uses Level 3 cloud storage, encoding capabilities and global video delivery network. "Level 3 built the new VEVO TV platform based on our unique combination of CDN, network and broadcast video capabilities. We were able to achieve a high-performing and scalable solution by leveraging our industry leading media delivery services," said Mark Taylor, vice president of Media and IP Services for Level 3. "We're proud to help VEVO truly optimize its content and enable such an innovative, pioneering entertainment platform. We can power simple, scalable delivery to any device, and the VEVO initiative clearly demonstrates our broad range of capabilities."
Edgecast partners for Indonesia CDN. EdgeCast Networks announced it has entered into a partnership with PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia International (TELIN) to power a TELIN-operated Indonesian CDN. Together the two companies will offer CDN services to enterprise customers and further expand the reach and capacity of EdgeCast’s global network. Under the partnership, TELIN will build a robust and well-distributed CDN within Indonesia using EdgeCast technology. The CDN will be directly connected to EdgeCast’s global network and also to users within the TELIN family of broadband and wireless service providers. “This partnership is great news for both companies and the customers we serve,” said James Segil, co-founder and president of EdgeCast Networks. “EdgeCast customers will have improved performance and reach in Indonesia, and TELIN customers will have access to the world’s best global CDN.” Additionally, TELIN plans to work with EdgeCast on incorporating other services, including Internet Protocol television (IPTV) and cloud hosting, into its CDN offerings.
