Veeam Acquires AWS Backup Provider N2WS for $42.5M
Veeam acquires N2WS to bolster its AWS backup capabilities.
As enterprises embrace hybrid cloud models, a big opportunity has emerged for vendors that provide the tools to backup workloads across cloud and on-premise environments. To that end, business continuity vendor Veeam announced on Tuesday that it has acquired N2WS for $42.5 million to grow its expertise in AWS backup.
N2WS provides a cloud-native solution designed for AWS backup, and will bolster Veeam’s backup and continuity solutions for AWS. Current Veeam integrations with AWS offer backup to S3 and Glacier, backup of EC2 instances, and backup for VMware Cloud on AWS.
Veeam said that the acquisition of N2WS will allow both companies to share R&D, and give N2WS access to Veeam’s partner ecosystem, which includes 18,000 Veeam Cloud Service Providers and 55,000 resellers.
In a blog post by Veeam co-CEO and president Peter McKay, he said that he saw “great potential, not only with the company, but also the AWS market, such that a full acquisition of the company made sense strategically.” (Veeam was an investor in N2WS prior to the acquisition.)
“As our customers look to move more workloads to the cloud, especially with AWS, protection and Availability of their data is a primary concern,” McKay said. “Our goal is to give our customers confidence that Veeam ensures that their information is protected no matter where it resides, and this acquisition gives our customers the #1 solution they need for protection of data and apps in AWS.”
N2WS grew its revenue by 102 percent in 2017. It will operate as a standalone company and maintain its brand name. N2WS CEO Jason Judge will remain head of the company, and Veeam said all teams, including sales, marketing, R&D, and customer service will remain intact.
“Joining forces with one of the world’s fastest growing software companies is very exciting for the N2WS team and for our customers,” Judge said in a statement. “We will further accelerate our rapid growth and the development of our top-rated solutions by leveraging the world-class team that Veeam has established. We also look forward to assisting Veeam customers explore their public cloud strategies with our years of innovation in public cloud storage.”
N2WS competitors include Druva, CloudRanger, Riverbed, Rubrik, and others.
