Power distribution giant Eaton has launched a new UPS system for the North American market.

The second generation 5PX offers considerably increased standard runtime over its predecessor and enhanced surge protection.

It also introduces optional connectivity features intended to simplify maintenance in distributed IT or edge environments - like medical facilities, university campuses, and retail offices.

Remote and distributed

The 5PX G2 is offered with power ratings from 1 to 3 kVA, and can be used in either rackmount or tower configurations. The device supports up to four external battery modules.

According to Eaton, the second generation 5PX increases standard runtime by at least 25% on 1.5 and 2 kVA models, when compared to the original.

The system can be managed and monitored remotely though optional Gigabit Network Cards, devices designed by Eaton to provide secure industrial connectivity over SNMP and public networks.

Another security-friendly feature is the ability to conduct mass firmware upgrades while continuing to protect the connected equipment.

5PX G2 supports Eaton’s Intelligent Power Manager software and PredictPulse remote monitoring service. Both are components of the Brightlayer Data Centers suite, a portfolio of applications that also includes Eaton’s own flavor of Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) software.

“As businesses across industries shift critical IT functions to a distributed model, it becomes more critical than ever to protect against downtime in these environments,” said Rusty Scocia, product line manager at Eaton.

“By bringing new connected capabilities to the 5PX G2 UPS, we’re giving these users an easy way to protect servers, switches, storage and other essential equipment without the need for on-site IT support. And, with enhanced cybersecurity protection, users have greater peace of mind that essential equipment is safeguarded from threats.”
