One of the easiest ways to save energy in the data center is by turning off servers that aren't doing anything. But how do you find them? Viridity offers data center software that tracks server utilization and matches it with energy usage and cost. Among other things, the software simplifies the process of identifying "zombie" servers that are using energy but not being used. At the recent AFCOM Data Center World conference in Las Vegas, Viridity co-founder and CTO Mike Rowan demonstrated the software for us. Here's a look.
