More companies are tracking the carbon footprint of their data center facilities as part of broader initiatives towards eco-responsibility. As a result, there's growing interest in renewable energy resources such as solar, wind, geothermal, biogas and hydro power. But how do you find these "green power" providers? The Environmental Protection Agency has gathered information on the renewable energy options from utilities in each of the 50 states, which is available online through the EPA's Green Power Locator. Listings for each state include the utility, program name, type of renewable energy offered, and whether the program includes premium pricing. The data was last verified in 2006, but should provide a head start for companies researching green power options. Here's a screen shot with a sample of the data:
