Switch & Data Expands at 111 Eighth Avenue
Switch and Data has expanded its presence at 111 Eighth Avenue, adding 25,000 square feet of space at the carrier hotel in New York City.

Data center services provider Switch and Data has expanded its presence at 111 Eighth Avenue, adding 25,000 square feet of space at the carrier hotel in New York City. The company also said it has upgraded its optical networking connections between 11 Eighth Avenue and New York's other premier carrier hotel at 60 Hudson Street by adopting an advanced provisioning platform from Cisco.
Switch and Data cited overwhelming demand for connectivity in Manhattan in its announcement of the expansion at 111 Eighth, which along with installations at 60 Hudson and 65 Broadway gives the company 85,000 square feet of data center space in New York City.
"We are seeing surging demand from a diverse marketplace made up of telecom carriers, VoIP providers, content providers, ISPs, MSOs, MSPs, ASPs and enterprises to increase connectivity to the Internet's core and network hubs," said Ali Marashi, Vice President of Engineering and CIO at Switch and Data. "Switch and Data is investing in additional space in key markets, as well as implementing advanced platforms in our core and in our interconnection of facilities with 10 Gigabit Ethernet and optical networking to deliver the reliability, scalability and stability these companies need for their businesses."
The interconnection of 111 8th Avenue and 60 Hudson is based on redundant 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GigE) and OC48 links providing Switch and Data's customers with a bridge between the two prominent NYC carrier hotels. Switch and Data said the new interconnection allows carriers, VoIP providers, ISPs, content providers and other service providers' immediate savings
