How many nines is your uptime guarantee? The Pingdom blog is highlighting web hosting companies that offer performance guarantees, but must be hoping their customers are really bad at math. In Worst Uptime Guarantees Ever, Pingdom has found a number of providers guaranteeing uptime of 95 percent, which works out to 37 hours of downtime each month. Thousands of other companies offer "guarantees" that stop at 99 percent uptime, or seven hours and 26 minutes of monthly downtime.

"The moral of the story is: If you don't trust yourself to deliver better uptime than 95%, perhaps you shouldn't be providing hosting at all," writes Pingdom, which provides site monitoring services.
