Ash Cloud Postpones Data Centres Europe Event

BroadGroup has postponed its Data Centres Europe conference, citing travel restrictions from the cloud of volcanic ash that has halted air traffic across much of Europe. The event was to be held this Thursday and Friday near Nice, France, but has now been postponed to June 24-25.

“Given the current situation and uncertainty with air travel so close to the event date, and after consultation with the venue, our sponsors, and the travel authorities, we made the decision to reschedule the conference," said Philip Low, managing director of BroadGroup. "This is the largest regional event with more than 500 executives from the data centre sector registered from all over Europe as well as the Middle East and North America. The postponement will sustain the success of the event despite the force majeure.”

While the new date will make it easier for European data center professionals to attend the event, it may force tough choices for industry executives from the U.S. The June 24-25 date places Data Centres Europe opposite two of the strongest industry conferences - the O'Reilly Velocity 2010 event in Santa Clara and GigaOm's Structure 2010 in San Francisco, which are both scheduled for June 23-24.
