Credit card processor First Data Corp. has outlined plans for a data center consolidation that will reduce its U.S. network from 12 facilities to just three. The consolidation, which is expected to take more than two years, will cost approximately $225 million, according to Payments News.
On April 1 First Data agreed to be acquired by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR) for $29 billion. The data center consolidation was planned before the acquisition, but continues a trend in which companies with karge data center networks are consolidating their servers into a smaller number of more advanced and energy-efficient facilities.
