Internap Network Services has opened the doors on a 7,500 square foot expansion of its Seattle-area colocation facility located on the Sabey Intergate campus in Tukwila, Washington.

The expansion builds on Internap's strong historic presence in the Seattle market, where the company launched in 1996 and still operates three data centers. The latest project marks the third expansion of the Tukwila facility since its opening.

Broader Shift in Company's Footprint
The latest project is part of a broader expansion of Internap’s company-operated data centers, while it reduces its dependence upon space leased from third-party providers. This strategy is helping the company improve the profit margins for its colocation business.

As it was adding additional space, Internap (INAP) also implemented ultrasonic humidification technology, which promotes ideal humidity levels and conserves energy.

"The expansion of the Seattle-area facility allows more customers in the region and beyond to leverage our unique, services-driven value proposition, which combines high-performance IP connectivity, industry-leading SLAs and hands-on customer support," said Mike Higgins, senior vice president of data center services at Internap.

In addition to the Seattle-area facility expansion, Internap's data center located at Fisher Plaza on 140 4th Avenue North in Seattle has also recently been renovated, with upgrades to the cooling towers and UPS units, adding 600 tons of cooling capacity and additional power to enable 3 kilowatts of power draw per cabinet.

Internap will hold an open house at the expanded Tukwila space on August 26 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. PDT.
