Here’s a roundup of more of this week’s headlines from the data center and hosting industry (it's been a busy week):
New York Internet selected by ClickBank. New York Internet (NYI) announced that online retail outlet ClickBank has selected NYI's 999 Frontier Road data center in Bridgewater, New Jersey to support its global expansion. The facility is less than 40 miles from Lower Manhattan for low-latency applications and has connections to a number of carriers and conduits to the European market. "999 Frontier offers a unique set of capabilities, especially for e-commerce providers," said Jeff Leget, Senior Director, IT Operations at ClickBank. "The facility is not only PCI compliant, its location on the eastern seaboard of the United States provides a wonderful conduit to the European market, with an impressive roster of major connectivity providers."
AboveNet connects with Terremark. AboveNet (ABVT) announced that it has linked its network to Terremark Worldwide Inc.'s NAP of the Capital Region located in Culpeper, VA. “AboveNet’s expansion into the Terremark NAP of the Capital Region is the latest step in our plan to provide Washington area customers with near-ubiquitous access to our advanced MAN and WAN services,” said Matt Johns, Director of Mid-Atlantic Sales at AboveNet. “AboveNet connects to nearly 50 data centers in the region to meet their customers’ needs for high bandwidth, low latency connectivity.” AboveNet currently serves Terremark customers in Miami, Fl, Dallas, TX, and Santa Clara, CA.
HP acquires Fortify Software. HP and Fortify Software announced Tuesday that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which HP will acquire Fortify, a privately held software security company based in San Mateo, Calif. "Businesses operate in a world of increasing security and compliance challenges, and the applications and services that they rely on are core to the problem and the solution," said Bill Veghte, executive vice president, Software and Solutions, HP. HP will further integrate Fortify software, as they have introduced the Hybrid 2.0 security analysis technology earlier in the year. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Intel acquires TI Cable Modem Unit. Intel (INTC) announced Monday that it has signed an agreement to acquire Texas Instruments' cable modem product line. The move will push Intel further into the consumer electronics market segment, where their system-on-chip (SoC) expertise will come into play. Intel said it plans to combine the TI product lines with the DOCSIS standard and Intel SoC to deliver an advanced set top box, residential gateway and modem products for the cable industry. This comes, as both Google and Apple are preparing their products for the digital living room as well. Apple is speculated to be revamping its under-performing Apple TV soon. "Intel is focused on delivering SoCs that provide the foundation for consumer electronics devices such as set top boxes, digital TVs, Blu-ray disc players, companion boxes and related devices," Bob Ferreira, general manager, Cable Segment, Intel's Digital Home Group. "This acquisition specifically strengthens Intel's product offerings for the continuum of cable gateway products and reinforces Intel's continued commitment to the cable industry."
